Finally got enough done in the shop to get the bike in today (Sat). Here is how the bike started out, with only the seat removed. Uncovered a might big dent that a bondo attempt had been made. Goodbye 27 year old wire harness. Bike as it sits when I finally called it a night. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the engine and the forks off, so I can start on my redneck blasting cabinet (55 gallon drum conversion).

Ok here is where I am at during my lunch/supper break. My camera is on the charger so had to take a couple shots with my phone. Here is my pit crew, figure you can't get em started too young. Here is the frame cleaned and ready for blasting, with two camera hogs that would not move once I pulled the phonecam out.

thats a good looking ride...are you going to blast the tank and redo the bondo work? and when you redo the harness are you going to use the orriginal conectors and lay new wire?

As far as the tank, I am going to try to get the dent out as much as possible. That deep of a dent would take the bondo months to cure enough to paint it. Once I removed the petthingy I believe I can get something inside to knock it out enough to just use a small layer of filler.
The electrical is going to be all new, I have a place that I can buy new connectors. I have a schematic of the original wiring, I have already started simplifying the schematic as much as possible.

Way to go rebuilder!. That beast will be whipped in no time. I certainly hope so, I can't tell you how many times during the disassembly I had one of those, what the heck am I doing?? moments. It didn't seem that daunting a task until parts started flying.

I would be afraid that freezing it would burst the seams of the tank before the dent went away. If I can't knock it out from the inside, I will most likely weld a rod to the outside of the tank to pull it out from the outside. Worst case scenario, I have been reading about how guys cut the tank and weld 2in wide sheet metal to make it taller and to improve range, it doesn't look that hard. I could knock the dent out easy that way ;D cool...glad you are doing it the right way instead of how alot of people do it and half a$$ it.. Well we have yet to see if I will do it right, I'm going to try though ;D

It's been a rat bike since I got it lol. Plan is to repaint the frame with truck bed liner, then will paint the fenders/tank a cobalt metallic blue.
As far as the electrical I will be wiring one circuit at a time, just got really fed up with every wire I would repair you could hear the wire breaking in other places.

Well let me know if you want it blasted, I almost have my blast cabinet built. I thought about buying one or making one out of a 55g drum, but then again I can't afford one, or find a drum that the frame will fit into.

my dad has a smallish blast cabinet...never been used due to a lack of big enough compressor..... but i highly doubt that the plastic will blast all that well...lol..
but the rims are another story...do you happen to know anyone who does power coating on the cheap?

I havent found anyone to do powder coating anywhere near here, I was originally going to coat the frame. It was then that I decided to use the truck bed liner, I had pretty good durability results on a friends bumper I made.

i have seen the bed coating used on rock crawlers and such...seemed to hold up the the abuse pretty well...another idea would be to have it "rino lined"...i dont know how much it would be, but it could be something to look into..
