Ok...Febuary means firming up the route and trip plans...we should also get a cost for the trip so we poor folks can start saving...Netminder, I am putting us in charge of the trip plans with Nav and route...Bonehead, I want you in charge of main contact points since you have the email and site admin. and you are on different sites.
Anyone have any questions about anything, email bonehead and he will get us the questions and we can hammer out any kinks.
As far as cost goes, I am looking at around $1000...I can get by on that and most of that is Hotel since we are getting our rooms on the fly. We know Tuskegee rooms on the last night is cheap and we can eat there but the rest of the trip is up in the air.

Just for grins, I looked up places to stay around Wilksboro, NC. That will be near the halfway point down the BRP. THAYS AIN'T CHEAP!!!!!! What I saw was 75-115 a night. Maybe someone else will be able to find better/cheaper lodging. Here's the general stops:
Night 1: Bristol, TN Night 2: Waynesboro, VA Night 3: Wilksboro, NC Night 4: Tuskegee, NC (I vote Tuskegee Inn. Boomer and I have stayed there before.

Found Riders Roost about 15 miles from Wilksboro. What do you think about the cabin or condo even. Take a peek and its motorcycle friendly. www.ridersroost.com/index2.html

A mere babe by comparrison. Even if I have to take no provisions, I've got to haul my CPAP, though it will be the older one that's at the farm now.

Day 5 will be 4 plus. Day 2 will have a detour into West Virginia, so probably add 100 to the day.

Yea, the detour looked about right - plus or minus. We won't be going to Front Royal, but Waynesboro instead. Found out that Skyline Drive is 35 MPH and loaded with "Smokies"

Ok updated a new map with times and mileage on the above posts.
And with mapquests fuel cost with 45mpg were looking at just under $70 in gas for the whole trip. Oh yeah Boomer your scoot should only cost about $47 @ 65mpg ;D
Total Estimated Time: 28 hours 38 minutes Total Estimated Distance: 1638.40 miles

Also just wanted to ask, would we be open to others maybe joining in for a leg of the journey?
There are several members on the GS site I'm on that live in the areas that we will be going through, and usually tell people " You should have told me you were in my area, I would have loved to ride a ways with you."

I don't care, as long as they are willing to ride with us, at our time and pace.

Bill and I sat down on break and ran some numbers for the ride. We are estimating the following as a minimum:
Gas: $160 (of course Jonathan can probably do it on 2 gallons) Lodging: $300 Food: $200
These are estimates. They cound go higher or lower, it depends. There is also an unknown expense for flat tires, break downs and the like.
I've got $1,000 set aside and have the plastic cash for emergencies!
